About

This is the journal of my pursuit of the Cisco CCIE Security. Clock starts ticking April 13 (Wooooo Friday the 13th) 2012. This is not a bet by any means. I passed my CCIE R&S in April 2009 after 2 years of studying. When it came time to recertify, I made the call to take the CCIE Security Written exam instead because my team manages not only the layer 2 and layer 3 devices, we also manage the firewalls, VPN devices and IPSes. I also wanted to see if I could pass it easily. So, I took the exam back in January 2011 and passed it. I wanted to start studying for the lab but wasn’t sure if I really wanted to go through another lab journey at the time. I was working for a company back then and had moved into a management role in addition of my role at Network Team Lead. So I was questioning the value of a second CCIE at the time. Fast forward to April 2012. Had my first kid (daughter) in December 2011 and I have changed roles since. I am now a network contractor for a Cisco reseller and doing technical stuff 100%. Then all of a sudden I have an itch for a second CCIE. I know most of you are saying I’m crazy but I want it and I have to have it… 🙂 So, you wondering why in 85 days. Well, unless I want to take the Written exam again, I only have 85 days before it expires! So, I’m challenging myself with this herculean task. I plan on blogging my progress here……stay tuned.
